- A number can be made using different combinations of smaller numbers.
- We use addition (+) and subtraction (β) to make numbers.

- Addition means putting things together.
- We use the + sign.
Examples:
- 2 + 3 = 5
- 1 + 4 = 5
π So, 5 can be made in many ways.
β Subtraction β Breaking Numbers
- Subtraction means taking away.
- We use the β sign.
Examples:
- 5 β 2 = 3
- 5 β 1 = 4
π Subtraction helps us find missing parts.

- A number can be split into two parts.
- These are called number bonds.
Example (5):
- 5 = 2 + 3
- 5 = 1 + 4
- 5 = 0 + 5
