• β€œLikely” means what may happen.
  • We use it to guess or predict something.

  • Something is more likely if it has a higher chance to happen.
  • It happens more often.

Examples:

  • A bag has 8 red balls and 2 blue balls β†’ picking red is more likely.
  • It is more likely to see the sun in the daytime.

  • Something is less likely if it has a lower chance to happen.
  • It happens less often.

Examples:

  • A bag has 1 green ball and 9 yellow balls β†’ picking green is less likely.
  • It is less likely to see a rainbow every day.

  • Things are equally likely if they have the same chance.
  • They can happen equally often.

Examples:

  • A bag has 5 red balls and 5 blue balls β†’ both are equally likely.
  • Tossing a coin β†’ heads or tails are equally likely.

  • More items = More likely
  • Fewer items = Less likely
  • Same number = Equally likely

  • Put different colored beads in a cup.
  • Ask students to guess which color is more, less, or equally likely before picking.
