key notes :
🧮 Subtraction Means Taking Away
- When we subtract, we take away some objects.
- We see how many are left.
- Example: 🍎🍎🍎 − 🍎 = 🍎🍎 (3 apples take away 1 apple = 2 apples)
👀 Use Pictures to Understand
- Count the objects in the picture first.
- Cross out ❌ the number you are taking away.
- Count the objects that are not crossed out.
🎨 Picture Method Steps
1️⃣ Look at the picture.
2️⃣ Count all objects.
3️⃣ Cross out the number to subtract.
4️⃣ Count the leftover objects.
5️⃣ That is your answer! ✔️

Learn with an example
✒️Subtract:

5 − 3 =
- There are 5 aeroplanes in total. 3 of them are crossed out. What number do you get when you start with 5 and take away 3?
- To find 5 minus 3, count the aeroplanes that are not crossed out.

- There are 2 aeroplanes left. When you start with 5 and take away 3, you are left with 2.
- So, 5 − 3 = 2.
✒️Subtract:

4 − 3 =
- There are 4 cars in total. 3 of them are crossed out. What number do you get when you start with 4 and take away 3?
- To find 4 minus 3, count the cars that are not crossed out.

- There is 1 car left. When you start with 4 and take away 3, you are left with 1.
- So, 4 − 3 = 1.
✒️Subtract:

2 − 1 =
- There are 2 trucks in total. 1 of them is crossed out. What number do you get when you start with 2 and take away 1?
