Related words are words that have similar meanings. They’re like cousins in the word family! But each word has its own special little difference. Let’s look at some examples.

Happy vs. Joyful

Both mean you feel good!

Happy is a general feeling.

Joyful is a very happy feeling!

Think of it as happy is 😄 and joyful is 😁!
Big vs. Huge

Both mean something is large.

Big is just large.

Huge is really, really large!
Like an elephant 🐘!

Which is bigger: A big dog, or a huge dog?
Sad vs. Upset

Both mean you don’t feel good.

Sad is generally not feeling good.

Upset is more of a sudden/emotional feeling.

Like when someone took your toy 🧸.
Run vs. Sprint

Both involve moving your feet fast!

Run is moving quickly.

Sprint is running as fast as you can!

Think of a cheetah! 🐆 That is a sprint!
Fast vs. Quick
Fast means moving with high speed. 🏃‍♂️

Quick means done in a short time. ⏱️
Small vs. Tiny
Small means not big.🐶

Tiny means very, very small.🐜
