Identify adjectives

Key Notes:-

  • What Is an Adjective?
  • An adjective is a word that describes a noun (a person, place, animal, or thing). It tells us more about the noun and makes sentences more interesting.
  • Example: In the sentence “The red apple is tasty,” the word “red” is an adjective because it describes the apple.

  • Look for Descriptive Words:
  1. Adjectives often tell us what kind of noun it is.
  2. Example: The big dog is barking. (The word “big” tells us what kind of dog.)
  • Check for Words That Answer “What Kind?” or “How Many?”:
  1. What Kind?
    • Describes the quality or characteristic of the noun.
    • Examples: The fluffy cat, the small house, the shiny car.
  2. How Many?
    • Describes the number or quantity of the noun.
    • Examples: Three apples, many toys, two balloons.
  • Ask Questions to Find the Adjective:
  1. “What kind of [noun]?”
    • Example: What kind of flower? A beautiful flower.
  2. “How many [noun]?”
    • Example: How many pencils? Four pencils.
  • Spot Adjectives in a Sentence:
  1. Find the noun first, and then look for the word that describes it.
  2. Example: “The tall giraffe eats leaves.” (Find the noun: giraffe. What describes it? Tall.)

  • The happy boy is playing.
  1. (Adjective: Happy. It describes the boy.)
