put the words in the abc order by Delta publications

Key Notes:-

Hi everyone! Today, we’re going to learn about ABC order. It’s like lining up words in the same way the letters are in the alphabet!

Think of the alphabet song: A, B, C, D, E, F, G… We can use that song to help us put words in order too!

  1. Look at the first letter of each word. That’s the most important letter!
  2. Sing the alphabet song until you find those letters.
  3. The word with the letter that comes first in the alphabet, goes first!
Example 1:

Let’s put these words in ABC order:

ball

apple

cat
Answer:

Sing the ABCs…

A comes before B and C, so apple is first!

B comes before C, so ball is second!

cat is last!

So the ABC order is: apple, ball, cat
Example 2:

Let’s put these words in ABC order:

dog

elephantant

Answer:

Sing the ABCs…

A comes before D and E, so ant is first!

D comes before E, so dog is second!

elephant is last!

So the ABC order is: ant, dog, elephant

Great question! If the first letters are the same, we look at the second letter! If the second letters are the same, we look at the third letter, and so on!

Example:

Let’s put these words in ABC order:

bat

bear

bag
Answer:

All the words start with ba, so look at the second letter.

Bat has t as its second letter

Bear has e as its second letter

Bag has g as its second letter

Sing the alphabet to find the correct order for t, e and g:

E comes first, then G, and finally T!

So the ABC order is: bear, bag, bat

Let’s practice!
