Key Notes:-

A prefix is a group of letters added to the beginning of a word.

It changes the meaning of the word.

Example:

  • un + happy = unhappy (not happy)
  • re + play = replay (play again)

A suffix is a group of letters added to the end of a word.

It changes the word’s meaning or how it is used.

Example:

  • help + ful = helpful (full of help)
  • care + less = careless (without care)
  • un- = not (unhappy, unsafe)
  • re- = again (redo, replay)
  • -s = more than one (cats, dogs)
  • -ed = past action (played, jumped)
  • -ing = happening now (playing, running)
  • -ful = full of (joyful, helpful)
  • -less = without (hopeless, careless)
  • They help us make new words.
  • They change the meaning of words.
  • They make reading and writing more fun.
  • Prefixes: unlock, remake, unhappy
  • Suffixes: jumping, kindful, fearless
