Make a number using addition – sums up to 20

When we add, we join two or more numbers to make a bigger number.
Example: 4️⃣ + 3️⃣ = 7️⃣

🎯 The biggest sum we can make is 20!

We can add numbers that make any total up to 20.
Example: 9️⃣ + 1️⃣1️⃣ = 2️⃣0️⃣

💡 We can make the same number in many ways!

• 5️⃣ + 5️⃣ = 1️⃣0️⃣
• 6️⃣ + 4️⃣ = 1️⃣0️⃣
• 7️⃣ + 3️⃣ = 1️⃣0️⃣

🧩 Use objects or pictures to help you add!

🍎 Apples, 🚗 cars, 🧸 toys, or 🎈 balloons can show how numbers join together.
Example: 8 balloons 🎈 + 2 balloons 🎈 = 1️⃣0️⃣ balloons 🎈

🖐️ Count on your fingers or use number lines!

Start with the first number and count forward.
Example: 7 + 5 → (8, 9, 10, 11, 12) = 1️⃣2️⃣

🎨 Addition can be shown with pictures or dots:

⚫⚫⚫ + ⚫⚫ = ⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫ → 3 + 2 = 5

🧠 Zero doesn’t change the number!

• 0️⃣ + 9️⃣ = 9️⃣

🌈 You can swap the numbers and get the same sum!
