tens and one by Delta publications

Every number has two places:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Tens place and Ones place

Example: In 47,

  • 4 is in the โœจtens placeโœจ โ†’ means 4 tens = 40
  • 7 is in the ๐Ÿ’ซones place๐Ÿ’ซ โ†’ means 7 ones = 7

  • Counting by tens means jumping 10 numbers at a time โžก๏ธ
    ๐Ÿ‘‰ 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 ๐ŸŽˆ
  • Each step adds one ten bundle (๐ŸŽ of 10 sticks or objects).

  • Counting by ones means going one number at a time โžก๏ธ
    ๐Ÿ‘‰ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 ๐ŸŒŸ
  • Each item is a single one (like 1 stick, 1 bead, or 1 block).

Numbers up to 99 are made using tens and ones blocks.

  • Example: 58 = 5 tens (๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ) + 8 ones (๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ)

  • 21 โ†’ Two tens and one one
  • 34 โ†’ Three tens and four ones
  • 90 โ†’ Nine tens and zero ones
    ๐Ÿ—ฃ Say it as: โ€œTwenty-oneโ€, โ€œThirty-fourโ€, โ€œNinetyโ€

  • 1 bundle of ten sticks = 10
  • 2 bundles = 20, 3 bundles = 30, โ€ฆ up to 9 bundles = 90
  • Add extra single sticks to show ones.
    Example: ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ + ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ = 32 (3 tens and 2 ones)

๐Ÿ’ก Always count tens first, then ones!

  • Example: In 67, count ๐Ÿ‘‰ 6 tens (60) โž• 7 ones (7) = 67

  • ๐ŸŸจ Tens tell how many groups of 10.
  • ๐ŸŸฉ Ones tell how many single units.
  • Together they make numbers up to 99! ๐ŸŽ‰
