Count on ten frames – up to 40
Key notes :
π Ten Frame means a box with 10 spaces (π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦).
π Each box can hold 10 counters (β«π΄π’).
π§ Purpose:
Ten frames help us see numbers easily and count faster instead of counting one by one. π
π’ Counting by Tens:
Each full ten frame = 10.
- 1 full frame = 10
- 2 full frames = 20
- 3 full frames = 30
- 4 full frames = 40 π―
π© Counting Example:
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦ = 10
- 2 ten frames full = 20
- 3 ten frames full = 30
- 4 ten frames full = 40 π
β Count On from a Ten Frame:
If one ten frame is full (10) and another has 3 counters,
π 10 + 3 = 13 β€οΈ
π Look for Patterns:
- Each new frame adds 10 more.
- Helps students understand place value β tens and ones π‘
π² Fun Tip:
Use real objects like π apples, 𧱠blocks, or π balloons to fill ten frames for practice!
𧩠Practice Ideas:
- Fill 4 ten frames to make 40 π¦π¦π¦π¦
- Ask: βIf 3 frames are full and 4 counters in the next frame, whatβs the number?β
π 30 + 4 = 34 π«
π Learning Outcome:
Students will learn to count up to 40 by using ten frames to make groups of ten and extra ones confidently! πͺ
Learn with an example
π How many dots are on the frame?

Count the dots.

There are 7 dots.
